I am the great frost giant, father to all other frost giants. I got my nourishment from the milk of Audumla. Bor’s three sons, Odin, Vili and Ve, did not take a liking to me and destroyed me. My blood ran like rivers and killed almost all the other frost giants, except Bergelmir and his wife. The three brothers carried my slain body to the middle of Ginnungagap. This is where they decided to create the world from my body. The ripped off my flesh and created the earth. From my unbroken bones they made mountains. My teeth, jaw and shattered bones were made into rocks, stones and boulders. From my gushing blood, the ocean and lakes were created. The sky was formed when Odin, Vili, and Ve raised my skull. They placed a dwarf under each corner of the sky, named North, South, East and West. They took sparks and bright embers from Muspell and made the sun and the moon and stars. They were so high in Ginnungagap that they lit both the earth and heaven. There was hostility among the rock and frost giants in Jotunheim. Midgard was shaped from my eyebrows to keep hostility between the giants at bay. My brains were thrown into the air and turned into clouds. Although I am unhappy to have been killed and torn apart by Odin, Vili, and Ve, I am quite pleased to have been made into the nine worlds. I will always be remembered for I am part of everything these creatures live in. I am the earth beneath their feet, their moon, sun and stars, the sky and clouds above them, the bodies of water which they must cross and the mountains in the distance. I am everywhere.
